As part of the 2017-18 State Budget,Government committed more than $68 million over four years for capital works to deliver a new statewide Adolescent Extended Treatment Facility (AETF) at The Prince Charles Hospital; two new Step Up Step Down Units (SUSDU) in north Brisbane and south Brisbane; and refurbishment for two new adolescent day program (DP) spaces at Logan and the Gold Coast.
To ensure progression of this next stage of work the Department of Health in collaboration with key Government agencies and health consumers is establishing governance and consultation processes that offer a range of opportunities for involvement: an overarching committee, a project oversight group, and a co-design consultation.
- Committee: The first meeting of the new overarching Committee is scheduled for 13 September 2017. The role of this Committee is to ensure processes are monitored and advice/direction is provided to support timely and successful delivery of the AETF, SUSDU and DP. The committee will be chaired by the Deputy-Director General, Clinical Excellence Division, Department of Health and meetings will be held
- Project Oversight Group: A Project Oversight Group is also being convened to oversee delivery of the program of capital works. This group is responsible to resolve design and coordination issues and provide advice to the Committee on risks and actions for resolution. Meetings will be held monthly.
- Co-design consultation: A range of workshops seeking health consumer input/expertise for detailed design, model of service and integrated educational/vocational services are planned with dates to be determined.
Health Consumers Queensland is working closely with Queensland Health, the Barrett community of former patients, family and friends and young mental health consumers and carers in Queensland, to make sure consumer and community needs are taken into account for the development and design of the new AETF and Expanded Youth Mental Health Program.
Consumers and carers with experience or interest in child and youth mental health are invited to submit expressions of interest for representative positions on the Committee and Project Oversight Group or to participate in co-design consultation.
