Medicines & Therapeutic

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is the government regulator of the supply, import, export, manufacturing and advertising of all medicines (over-the-counter, prescription and complementary) and medical devices in Australia.

Their website provides information for consumers on:

  • the registration of medicines
  • product recalls
  • importing medications
  • travelling with medications
  • what the information on medication labels means

If you have had an issue with a medication you are taking or a medical device you are using, you can report the issue to the TGA. They will investigate your report and your report could assist them to understand side effects that are possible and have not been discovered in clinical trials.

For more information please see the TGA Website.

Choosing Wisely is an initiative led by many of Australia’s medical colleges and professional societies designed to start a conversation with consumers about unnecessary practices and medicines ingrained in the health system.

Included in the website are 5 questions to ask your doctor before you get any test, treatment or procedure.
