For Health Staff

Health Consumers Queensland provides training to health service staff, to support their skills understanding and implementing in consumer and community engagement within their organisations.

Training can be tailored to meet the needs and skill level of organisations. The fundamental modules consist of:

  • Partnering effectively with consumers and community
  • Introduction to consumer participation in the health care sector
  • Consumer and Patient centred care
  • Working with consumers for committee chairs
  • Working with consumers for general staff
  • Writing consumer focused health information
  • How to support consumer representatives within your health service

All sessions are designed to increase your staff’s capacity to partner with consumers from a consumer-centred care value base. Training can be tailored to your service’s requirements.

Graduate Certificate in Consumer and Community Engagement

Health Consumers Queensland is now offering the nationally accredited course, Graduate Certificate in Consumer and Community Engagement (Code 10164NAT)

Course content

Graduate Certificate in Consumer and Community Engagement consists of four units:

  • Manage operations within a consumer and community engagement framework
  • Support consumer and community engagement planning
  • Lead the implementation of organisational consumer and community engagement
  • Manage and develop systems and structures for consumer and community engagement

Delivery mode

Graduate Certificate in Consumer and Community Engagement is delivered as a 4 day face to face program. To gain competency, participants are required to undertake additional self-directed activities and complete work-based assessment tasks.

For Consumer Representatives

Health Consumers Queensland can deliver training for consumer representatives, including orientation for new consumers and skills development for existing representatives. Training can be tailored to your service’s needs. Content may include:

  • Understanding the public health system in Queensland
  • Understanding the general health system in Queensland
  • Meeting preparation and participation skills
  • Communication skills – conflict resolution
  • Systemic advocacy
  • Consumer consultation and networking with purpose
