We want to hear your views!

Health Consumers Queensland is preparing our submission to the Queensland Parliament’s Health, Communities, Disability Services and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Committee in relation to the Health and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2018. You can read more about the bill, including the Minister’s introductory speech and explanatory notes here.

Our submission will be based on feedback from health consumers and carers. It looks like much of the Bill is positive for consumers and we are keen to hear your views on the proposed changes.

Background

On 13 November 2018, Hon Dr Stephen Miles MP, Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services, introduced theHealth and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2018. In his speech, the Minister said “The Bill will make significant reforms to health legislation to protect and improve the health of Queenslanders.

“It will remove barriers for patients and doctors seeking access to medicinal cannabis treatment, it will ensure Queenslanders are notified of pollution events that pose a risk to public health and it will establish a register of occupational dust lung diseases such as coalmining pneumoconiosis, or black lung, and silicosis caused by engineered stone benchtops.“
