During 2018 members of the Peer Participation in Mental Health Services (PPIMS) Network explored the idea of establishing some Communities of Practice (CoP) and in particular one for Peer (Lived Experience) Workers in the region. The main reasons were that many peer workers do not have access to Peer Supervision as well as wanting to have an opportunity for some peer reflection and group supervision with other peers.
“A Community of Practice is a group of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do, and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly. It is through the process of sharing information and experiences with the group that members learn from each other, and have an opportunity to develop personally and professionally (Lave & Wenger 1991).”
With the support from Brook RED and coordinated by the PPIMS Network, monthly CoP’s for Peer Workers are planned commencing in August 2018 for those employed and/or volunteering in an identified Peer/Lived Experience role in the region.
We are now calling for Expressions of Interest to participate in this CoP (max of 15 participants).
