Closing date: 4pm, Friday 21 October 2022
Health Consumers Queensland has an opportunity for ten (10) carers to host a Kitchen Table Discussion or Yarning Circle with other carers and community members to help Carers Queensland and the Queensland Carers Advisory Council understand and identify gaps in services and supports for:
1. Carers of people who are frail aged
2. Young carers (under 25 years of age)
3. Carers of people with disability
4. Carers of people with mental health conditions
5. Carers of people with substance abuse issues
6. Grandparent carers
About the project
The Queensland Carers Advisory Council is established under the Carers (Recognition) Act 2008 to provide advice to the Minister for Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships on work to promote the interests of carers and make recommendations to support carer recognition.
As part of this work, they have asked Carers Queensland to undertake consultation with carers to identify gaps in services and supports. Carers Queensland have asked Health Consumers Queensland to support this project through inviting carers to host Kitchen Table Discussions and Yarning Circles with other carers and community members.
Who are we looking for as Consumer or Carer Hosts?
We would like our hosts to have strong community connections and can invite a group of up to 10 participants who are:
1. Carers of people who are frail aged
2. Young carers (under 25 years of age)
3. Carers of people with disability
4. Carers of people with mental health conditions
5. Carers of people with substance abuse issues
6. Grandparent carers
Role of the Kitchen Table Discussion Host or Yarning Circle Host
As the host, your role will be to plan, coordinate and host a once-only 90 minute to two hour discussion with other carers. This includes:
· Inviting other carers (ideally, community members who do not normally have their voice heard in healthcare).
· Choosing a time, date and venue between 29th October and 14th November and host your session.
· Completing and provide the discussion feedback to Health Consumers Queensland by 15th November.
You will receive training, a host guide and toolkit with all printed documentation and support from Health Consumers Queensland to host and complete the session.
