Closing date EXTENDED: 4pm, Monday 12 September 2022

Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service are conducting a needs analysis to improve the prevention, early diagnosis and management of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and youth. The results of this needs analysis will inform strategies to optimize the prevention and management of prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and youth.

As part of the project, Children’s Health Queensland want to hear from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and your  families about what you think about how health services could better support the prevention and management of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

We have an opportunity for four consumers to host a yarning circle with up to 10 participants in the following regions:
– Darling Downs
– Townsville/Mackay
– Torres and Cape or Northern Peninsula (NPA) regions
– Mt Isa/North West region

Yarning circle participants must include:
– At least two young people, both male and female, preferably if they are living with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, a chronic health condition or they have a family member who is living with type 2 diabetes.
– Parents and/or guardians of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, preferably if they have a child who is living with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, a chronic health condition or they have family members who are living with type 2 diabetes.

Role of the Yarning Circle Host
As the host, your role will be to plan, coordinate and host a once-only two-hour Yarning Circle. This includes:
·       Invite local community people to participate (ideally, community members who do not normally have their voice heard in healthcare) who can inform on prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in children and youth.
·       Choosing a time, date and venue to host your yarning circle between 10th to 25th September that works for your participants and host your session.
·       Complete and provide the discussion feedback to Health Consumers Queensland by 26th September.
